Amazing Transformation on Oak Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE

Lamb’s Custom Painting is thrilled to share our latest exterior painting project. This beautiful home is next door to one of our previous staining projects on Oak Avenue in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

The owner of this lovely two-story beach house approached us while we were working on the neighboring project last fall. He already had the color selected, as he was inspired by a home that is located a few blocks away. Though he was anxious to begin last year, we insisted that we not gamble with the unpredictable winter temperatures. The wait certainly proved beneficial, as the project went swimmingly.

We began by Softwashing the entire home. This eliminates all dirt, salt, mold, mildew, grease, grime, and lichen from the surfaces to be painted, making the surfaces most susceptible to the proper adherence of the paint.

After allowing the project ample time to dry, we prepared the home for painting. All areas were protected with heavy canvas drop cloths. We caulked the areas that were in need with Sherwin Williams (SW) Shermax paintable caulk. We lightly sanded the areas to be painted. We applied two coats of Benjamin Moore’s (BM) Regal Select exterior flat paint in Deep Ocean 2058-30. All the trim was painted with a coat of white semi-gloss paint.

The homeowner was absolutely thrilled with the results.

Client Review: I’m the owner of the “bluebird house” on Richard Lamb’s Custom Painting home page. For those curious, the color is Deep Ocean Blue by Benjamin Moore. The blue will mellow into more of a gray-blue over the next few years, ending up as the New England-ish look I wanted. This project started moving in the Spring of 2021 when the owners of another house in the area told me what color they used. With that piece of information, the hunt for a painter started. Richard Lamb’s Custom Painting was painting my neighbor’s house in October 2021. I watched and noticed the cut-ins were perfect, the trim was being painted by hand, the cedar shakes adjoining windows and doors were being hand-painted, and overspray was immediately corrected. The job was done perfectly. I knew who I wanted to do my house (which had not been painted in 20+ years.) I talked with Mr. Lamb and he said they would be glad to paint the house in 2022. What??!! He explained that the temperature needs to be above a certain minimum for the paint to dry correctly, and they could not be sure the temperature in November would be above that minimum. Quality above a check-in-hand? This is novel. I’m liking this company more and more. In June 2022 the crew power washed the house. No more boring no-pop Wedding Cake yellow and white with a tint of moss green thrown in. It. Was. Clean. As promised, on June 20, they showed up with a crew to start the first coat. The first coat was amazing-the painters did it BY HAND-brushes and small rollers, and the paint went on thick. We were blessed with low humidity days so the paint dried fast and perfectly. About a week later (rain days a couple of days) the first coat was completed. A second coat went on, some by spray gun and a lot by hand, and the trim was done. (This house has a lot of windows and doors so there were miles of trim to be painted. By hand.) Neighbors stopped by and commented I owned a new house. It looked that good. Tenants across the street watched the work going on and said they loved the color. I was over late in the job and mentioned a couple of touch-up spots. The painters said-we know…we aren’t through. And the touch-up was done. Something I noticed was the crew was very respectful of the property-no trash in the yard, paint cans gathered together in the back of the house each day, and debris removed every day. I could not be happier with the job. Rating: Richard Lamb’s Custom Panting gets a 5 only because I can’t give a higher rating. I later learned that Richard has painted a multitude of the houses in Rehoboth-some more than once. There’s a reason: the quality of their work. I also learned in June they were backed up with work until November. There’s a reason: everyone wants them to do their painting or power washing because they are top quality. You will be happy if you choose Lamb’s Custom Painting for any painting or exterior cleaning need you may have.
